Baucau, 9–11 July 2025 – Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) has taken a major step in strengthening our national capacity by organizing a three-day residential Program Management Workshop in Baucau. The event, held from 9–11 July 2025, brought together 35 key staff members including national department coordinators, project managers, and branch coordinators from across Timor-Leste.
As part of CVTL’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, the workshop aimed to enhance staff competencies in project planning, financial and operational risk management, team supervision, and effective program implementation.
“This important initiative is a cornerstone of our strategic commitment to institutional growth and staff development,” said Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto, CVTL Secretary General, during the opening session. “By investing in our people, we are strengthening our ability to deliver high-quality humanitarian and development programs across the country.”
The workshop was delivered using participatory, scenario-based approaches to promote practical problem-solving, peer learning, and real-world application. Participants engaged in interactive group work, tackled field-based case studies, and completed pre- and post-assessments to track learning progress and guide future training needs.
The event was supported by key partners the American Red Cross (AmCross), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Each organization highlighted the importance of capacity-building to ensure sustainable, accountable, and community-focused impact.
“This workshop reinforces CVTL’s ongoing pursuit of operational excellence and responsiveness to humanitarian needs,” said Ms. Sazad Ansari (AmCross), Mr. Macario Lopes (IFRC), and Mr. João Martins (ICRC) in a joint statement.
Training materials were complemented by resources from the IFRC Learning Platform, ensuring that staff are equipped with modern tools and techniques in project cycle management.
By strengthening the skills of its program and project managers, CVTL continues to demonstrate its leadership and long-term commitment to serving communities across Timor-Leste with professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
