Liquiça, 10 September 2026 — The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Liquiça Branch, in collaboration with the Municipal Service of Water, Sanitation and Environment (SMASA) of Liquiça Municipality, established a Facility Management Group (GMF) to support Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in the community of Daire Sub-Village, Gugleur Village, Maubara Administrative Post, Liquiça Municipality.
The two-day activity, held on 9–10 September 2026, aimed to strengthen community participation and responsibility in the management of water facilities while promoting good sanitation and hygiene practices to contribute to improved community health and well-being.
According to Mr. Cesar da Silva Bruno, Coordinator of the CVTL Liquiça Branch, the establishment of the GMF provides an opportunity for community members to take a more active role in managing and maintaining water facilities and promoting healthy hygiene practices within their community.
The activity brought together 62 community participants, including 32 women and 30 men. Participants engaged in discussions and activities focused on community-based management of water facilities, sanitation, hygiene, and shared responsibilities for maintaining WASH services.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Joaquim Tilman, CVTL Water and Sanitation (WASH) Officer, and Mr. Apolonius Alex, Project Coordinator of the Strengthening Social Inclusion and Nutrition in Timor-Leste (SSINTL), CVTL Liquiça Branch.
Through the establishment of the GMF, CVTL and SMASA aim to encourage stronger community ownership and participation in WASH management, helping ensure that water and sanitation facilities are properly maintained and that good hygiene practices are sustained at the community level.
