Ainaro, 26–29 May 2026; The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Ainaro Branch successfully conducted a four-day Refresher Training for its Branch Disaster Response Team (BDRT) from 26 to 29 May 2026 in Ainaro Municipality. The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of BDRT members to effectively respond to disasters and emergency situations in their communities.
According to Mr. Graciano Perreira, CVTL Ainaro Branch Coordinator, the refresher training was designed to enhance the capacity of BDRT volunteers and ensure they are well-prepared to provide timely and effective humanitarian assistance during emergencies.
“The objective of this refresher training is to increase the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of the BDRT CVTL Ainaro Branch team so we are ready to respond during disasters and emergency situations,” said Mr. Perreira.
The training was facilitated by experts from the CVTL National Headquarters (NHQ), including Mr. Josafat de Araujo, Anticipatory Action Manager; Mr. Dinis Gomes, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Manager; and Mrs. Monica Soares, Project Manager.
Throughout the four days, participants engaged in a combination of theoretical sessions, group discussions, practical exercises, and simulations. Key topics covered included shelter construction, rapid assessment, logistics management, emergency assistance, early warning systems, coordination mechanisms, operational planning, evacuation procedures, relief distribution, feedback collection, and report writing.
A total of 28 BDRT members participated in the training, including 20 women and 8 men, demonstrating strong community engagement and commitment to disaster preparedness.
The refresher training was made possible with support from the American Red Cross (AmCross), reinforcing ongoing efforts to strengthen local disaster response capacities and build more resilient communities across Timor-Leste.
