CVTL Lautem Branch Conducts Food Nutrition Training to Combat Malnutrition in Timor-Leste

Lautem, 21 June 2024 – The CVTL (Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste) Lautem Branch organized a capacity-building training focused on food nutrition education and cooking demonstrations for the community in Daudere Village, including Raumoko and Anarua hamlets. This initiative primarily targeted mothers, aiming to enhance their knowledge of nutritious food and proper preparation techniques to support children’s physical and mental development.

The training session, attended by 22 participants (20 females and 2 males), emphasized the importance of nutrition in reducing morbidity and malnutrition mortality rates in Timor-Leste. Participants were educated on various aspects of nutritious food preparation and its impact on children’s growth and overall health.

Through interactive cooking demonstrations, mothers learned practical skills to incorporate nutritious ingredients into daily meals. This hands-on approach ensured that the knowledge gained could be directly applied to improve the dietary habits of families within the community.

This essential activity was made possible through funding from the CBEWS-UNEP, in collaboration with the Secretary of State for Environment – National Designated Authority for climate change (AND, IP). The support from these organizations highlights a strong commitment to addressing nutritional challenges and promoting healthier living standards in Timor-Leste.

The training received positive feedback from participants, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable information and practical skills imparted. The CVTL Lautem Branch remains dedicated to continuing such initiatives, contributing to the overall health and well-being of communities across Timor-Leste.
