On 7–8 August 2025, the Red Cross of Timor-Leste (CVTL) held our National Youth Camp and First Aid Competition in Kabasfatin Sub-Village, Seloi-Malere Village, Aileu Vila Post Administrative, Aileu Municipality. Under the theme “Empowerment and Leadership for the Youth of the Red Cross of Timor-Leste”, the event brought together volunteers from all 13 CVTL branches to test their skills, showcase cultural traditions, and strengthen solidarity among the youth.
The First Aid Competition was a highlight of the program, with participants tested on both theory and practical simulations of emergency scenarios. The initiative aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of CVTL volunteers, improve coordination and teamwork between branches, and motivate ongoing training to ensure strong disaster and emergency response capacity. A total of 31 volunteers 12 females and 19 males took part, with direct evaluation from experienced CVTL First Aid Trainers.
Competition results saw Region II (Dili, Manatuto, and Oecussi Branches) take first place, followed by Region I (Baucau, Lautem, and Viqueque Branches) in second place, and Region III (Aileu, Ainaro, Covalima, and Manufahi Branches) in third place. Organizers commended the effort, teamwork, and dedication displayed by all participants.
In addition to the competition, the two-day camp featured vibrant cultural performances from each branch. Volunteers showcased traditional dances and music from their municipalities, filling the camp with color, rhythm, and a shared sense of pride. These activities promoted the value of preserving Timor-Leste’s cultural heritage and deepened mutual respect and understanding among participants from different regions.
The cultural exchange also helped inspire positive engagement, foster creativity, and reinforce unity among the CVTL youth. Through music and dance, participants celebrated the diversity that strengthens the Red Cross movement in Timor-Leste, while building lasting friendships across branch lines.
CVTL expressed our appreciation to the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste through the Civil Society Support Office (GASC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for their generous support in making the event a success.
