Greenhouse Construction and Horticulture Training Strengthens Climate Resilience in Covalima and Ermera

Covalima & Ermera Municipalities, 9–17 February 2026 – The training on “Greenhouse Construction and Horticulture (Climate Change Adaptation)” was successfully conducted in Raimea Village, Covalima Municipality, and Urahou Village, Ermera Municipality, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community capacity in horticulture and enhance resilience to climate change.

The four-day training, facilitated by Ms. Monica Soares, volunteer and program facilitator of Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), was attended by 35 participants (17 women and 18 men). The sessions provided community members with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in greenhouse construction techniques to protect crops from extreme weather conditions.

Participants also learned about effective water management practices, climate-adaptive planting methods, and strategies to maintain food production during both prolonged rainy and dry seasons. The training aimed to equip communities with sustainable solutions to respond to the increasing impacts of climate variability.

Ms. Monica Soares shared that before serving as a facilitator, she received comprehensive training from World Vision, which equipped her with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver all training sessions effectively.

This activity reflects the strong commitment of Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste to support communities in strengthening food security and promoting climate change adaptation at the grassroots level.

The training was supported by the American Red Cross (AmCross). Sincere thanks are extended to all participants and partners, for contributing to the success of this meaningful initiative.
