Manatuto, 9 March 2026 – Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) conducted a meeting with community members and local authorities in Iliheu Village, Manatuto Municipality, to identify families in need of plastic containers for storing and protecting seeds and food.
According to Mr. Josafat de Araujo from CVTL’s Anticipatory Action Manager, the initiative aims to support communities in strengthening their preparedness for disaster risks while improving household-level food security. By ensuring that families have proper containers to store seeds and food supplies, the activity helps safeguard essential resources during emergencies and future planting seasons.
He highlighted, youth involvement is a crucial element in promoting community participation and strengthening local capacity in disaster prevention and mitigation. He highlighted that young people play an important role in activities such as cleaning water drainage systems and supporting families in harvesting and storing seeds.
A total of 17 participants attended the meeting, including 8 women and 9 men, representing local leaders, youth groups, and families from the community.
