Jakarta, 23 April 2026 – The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen humanitarian cooperation in border areas between Timor-Leste and Indonesia. The signing ceremony took place at the PMI Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The agreement was signed by CVTL President, Mrs. Madalena Fernandes Melo Hanjan Costa Soares, and PMI President, Mr. Jusuf Kalla. They were accompanied by CVTL Secretary General, Mr. Agapito da Silva, and PMI Vice President, Mr. Nanan Soekarna.
The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Jakarta, Mr. Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares, as well as partners from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Australian Red Cross, and American Red Cross.
The MoU aims to enhance community resilience, strengthen organizational capacity, and intensify collaboration in areas such as disaster management, public health emergencies, volunteer development, blood donation, first aid, water and sanitation, restoring family links, humanitarian diplomacy, and logistics.
The agreement will remain valid for five years and may continue according to future program implementation needs and technical cooperation opportunities.
