CVTL and Care Timor-Leste Collaborate to Revitalize Water and Sanitation Management in Ahik Village

Viqueque, 01 February 2024 – In a collaborative effort, CVTL Viqueque Branch, with Care Timor-Leste and SMASA (Servisu Munisipal Água, Saneamentu no Ambiente), convened a crucial meeting with local authorities and communities in Ahik Village, Lakluta Administrative Post, Viqueque Municipality. The primary objective of the gathering was to re-activate the GMF Group (Facilities Management Group) with the aim of rejuvenating the management of the Water System and sanitation in the village.

The meeting, which drew participation from 19 women and 17 men, marked a pivotal step toward addressing the pressing water and sanitation needs in Ahik Village. With representatives from both governmental and non-governmental organizations present, discussions centered around strategies to effectively revive and strengthen the GMF Group. The group’s revitalization is seen as a crucial step in ensuring sustainable and efficient water and sanitation services for the local community.

Emphasizing the importance of community involvement, the attendees explored ways to empower local residents to actively participate in the management and maintenance of the water system. Through collaborative efforts, the aim is to establish a model of community-driven water and sanitation governance that can be replicated in other areas facing similar challenges.

As the meeting concluded, there was a shared commitment among all stakeholders to work hand-in-hand for the successful re-activation of the GMF Group in Ahik Village. The collaboration between CVTL, Care in Timor-Leste, and SMASA reflects a dedication to improving the quality of life for the residents of Viqueque Municipality through sustainable water and sanitation initiatives.
