Laga Women’s Group trained in First Aid

Baucau, February 1-3, 2024 – To enhance community safety, Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (Timor-Leste Red Cross – CVTL) organised a comprehensive First Aid training session for the Women’s Group in Soba Village (Laga Administrative Post). Over the course of three days, the training welcomed a diverse group of 20 participants, comprising 17 men and 3 women.

Led by CVTL, the First Aid training aimed to equip participants with crucial skills to provide immediate assistance in various emergency situations. Arminda Teotonia Ximenes, the coordinator of the Women’s Group, highlighted the significance of the initiative. She emphasised that the training was important in building on the  knowledge base of the Women’s Group, ensuring they can administer effective first aid whenever required.

Arminda Teotonia Ximenes, said that the training will help save lives and now the  Women’s Group has the capacity to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively. The acquired skills not only empower individual participants, but also contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community. Through this training, the Women’s Group is now better prepared to address health-related challenges and offer timely assistance in critical situations.

This important training was made possible through funding from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Timor-Leste. The financial support from IOM underscores the commitment to community development and empowerment, particularly in the crucial area of First Aid. The successful completion of the training represents a step forward in building resilient and self-reliant communities, ready to face unforeseen challenges with confidence and competence.
