Suai, Covalima | 20 June 2026 – The Branch Disaster Response Team (BDRT) of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Covalima Branch, in coordination with the Covalima Municipal Fire Brigade, the Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC), and the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) of Suai Administrative Post, carried out evacuation operations for communities affected by flooding in Akar Laran Sub-Village, Suai Village, Covalima Municipality.
According to CVTL Covalima Branch Coordinator, Mr. Barnabe Ferreira, the flooding began at approximately 11:00 p.m. on 19 June 2026, following heavy rainfall in the area.
As of 20 June 2026, emergency response teams had provisionally evacuated 117 households, affecting a total of 363 people, including 131 males and 232 females. The evacuation was conducted to ensure the safety of residents as floodwaters impacted homes and surrounding areas.
The coordinated response involved emergency assessments, community evacuations, and ongoing monitoring of flood conditions. Authorities and humanitarian responders continue to work closely to support affected families and reduce risks associated with the flooding.
CVTL and its response partners remain on the ground, monitoring the evolving situation and providing emergency assistance to safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of affected communities.
