CVTL and IFRC Conduct Anticipatory Action Training for Bobonaro Disaster Response Team

Bobonaro, 23–24 April 2025 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), in collaboration with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), held a two-day training session on Anticipatory Action for the CVTL Bobonaro Branch Disaster Response Team (BDRT). The initiative aimed to strengthen local preparedness and disaster risk reduction capabilities through proactive planning and response strategies.

According to Filomeno de Araujo, CVTL Disaster Risk Reduction Manager, the primary goal of the training was to enhance the knowledge, skills, and capacity of BDRT members in anticipatory action — a critical approach within modern disaster risk management frameworks. By focusing on early warning and early action, participants learned how to better anticipate and respond to climate-related hazards before they escalate into full-blown disasters.

A total of 25 volunteers from the Bobonaro Branch participated in the training, with a strong representation of women (18 female and 7 male participants). The training was supported by the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, under the umbrella of the IFRC, showcasing a continued commitment to building resilient communities through localized and inclusive disaster preparedness efforts.
