CVTL Conducts SDRR Program Workshop to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness and Response

Dili, 28–29 January 2026 — The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) conducted a two-day workshop on the Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Response (SDRR) Program at the CVTL National Headquarters in Formosa, Dili.

The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR), as well as to analyze the importance of program implementation, the Program Quality Checklist, and the e-VCA Quality Checklist.

The opening session featured remarks from the CVTL Secretary General, Mr. Agapito da Silva, alongside a representative of the American Red Cross in Timor-Leste, Mr. Md. Sazzad Ansari. Both emphasized the importance of quality programming and community-centered approaches in enhancing disaster preparedness and response.

The sessions included presentations of group discussion results and knowledge-sharing led by the Advisor for International Technical Programs, Global Division, American Red Cross (Bangkok), Mr. Colin Fernandes, who highlighted good practices in program quality, including ensuring effective, accountable, and responsible community-based humanitarian action.

The activity brought together SDRR program officers and branch coordinators from Bobonaro, Covalima, and Ermera, as well as staff from Disaster Management, Finance, Human Resources and Administration, PMER, and Communications departments.

The workshop was attended by 20 participants (6 female and 14 male) and was accompanied by the Disaster Management Coordinator, Mrs. Emidia Belo, and representatives from the American Red Cross in Timor-Leste.
