CVTL Delivers Basic First Aid Training to ANM Staff to Boost Workplace Safety

Dili, 25–27 June 2025 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) successfully conducted a three-day Basic First Aid Training for staff of the National Minerals Authority (ANM) at CVTL’s Formosa headquarters in Dili. The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding and preparedness to respond to medical emergencies in the workplace.

During the opening session, Mr. Sefriano Sufa, CVTL’s Commercial First Aid Manager, highlighted the importance of basic first aid knowledge. “This training aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and capacity in first aid, an essential skill for ensuring health and safety in the workplace. Incidents at home or work can escalate if first aid is delayed. We want to ensure that everyone is equipped to act promptly before professional help arrives,” he stated.

The training covered both theoretical and practical components, with a focus on real-life scenarios. Participants learned how to respond to bleeding, wounds, fractures, burns, and poisoning, and how to safely evacuate victims when necessary. “We learned how to respond and provide first aid in a variety of situations,” shared Mr. Jesuinho Luis, one of the participants. “It was a valuable experience in preparing us to handle emergencies before professional medical support is available.”

Ms. Sonia Rosa Nunes, another participant, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “This was my first time receiving formal First Aid training, and I feel motivated to be a lifesaving hero during emergencies. The training empowered us with practical skills that can make a real difference.”

A total of 11 staff members (6 women and 5 men) participated in the training. Topics covered included Introduction to First Aid, Recovery Position, Casualty Transportation, Multiple Victim Management, and Common Emergency Cases.
