CVTL Empowers Maubara Community with Horticulture Training to Improve Family Nutrition

On 15–16 July 2025, the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), through its Disaster Management Department, organized a two-day horticulture training in Nunuana Sub-Village, Vaviquinia Village, Maubara Administrative Post, Liquiça Municipality. The activity was carried out in collaboration with the CVTL Liquiça Branch and the Extensionist of Maubara Administrative Post, aiming to support local communities in enhancing household food security and nutrition.

According to Ms. Monica Soares, a facilitator from CVTL, the training was designed specifically for beneficiaries of the home garden program. It focused on strengthening participants’ practical knowledge and techniques in managing home gardens, with particular emphasis on using wet and dry organic fertilizers to ensure sustainable and nutritious food production.

In addition to the training, CVTL also distributed essential agricultural tools and materials to the beneficiaries. Following the sessions, participants began preparing their home garden plots, getting ready to plant sugarcane seeds provided as part of the program. A total of 29 community members, including 12 women and 17 men, actively took part in the training.

This initiative was made possible with support from the Civil Society Support Office (GASC), reflecting CVTL’s continued commitment to empowering rural communities and promoting food self-sufficiency through practical, grassroots-level interventions.
