CVTL Empowers Youth Leaders through Gender, Protection and Inclusion Workshop

Dili, 22 April 2025 – The Secretary General of Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto, officially opened a vital workshop focused on Gender, Protection, and Inclusion (PGI) for youth volunteer leaders and youth coordinators from all 13 CVTL branches. The event marks a significant step towards fostering a safer and more inclusive environment within the organization’s volunteer network.

A total of 25 youth participants—6 female and 19 male—took part in the workshop, which provided essential tools and strategies to help them champion inclusion, protection, and gender equity in their respective communities. The training also aimed to reinforce the importance of creating a safe and supportive space for all CVTL activities, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals.

“The objective of this workshop is not only to raise awareness but to build a strong foundation in leadership that is rooted in the principles of protection, gender equality, and inclusion,” said Secretary General Mr. Pinto during his opening remarks. “It’s about establishing accountability and empowering youth leaders to become ambassadors of these values within their branches and communities.”

This important initiative was made possible with the financial support of the American Red Cross (Amcross), reflecting the ongoing collaboration between CVTL and its partners to strengthen the capacities of local youth volunteers. Through continued education and leadership development, CVTL remains committed to upholding the humanitarian values at the core of its mission.
