Dili, 19–23 May 2025 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) conducted a week-long Refresher Training of Trainers (ToT) in First Aid Level B at its National Headquarters in Formosa, Dili. The training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of CVTL’s first aid trainers and prepare them for the next level of certification Level C.
The training was attended by 10 participants, including two women and eight men from CVTL branches. Over the five days, participants refreshed their expertise in critical first aid topics, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bleeding control, and shock management. These life-saving techniques are essential tools for trainers to help build safer and more resilient communities throughout Timor-Leste.
This refresher program aligns with the standards set by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ (IFRC) Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC). Supported by funding from the American Red Cross (AmCross), the training emphasized the importance of maintaining updated knowledge and practices in first aid education.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Md. Sazzad Ansari, AmCross Country Representative in Timor-Leste, reaffirmed the central role of first aid within the Red Cross Movement. He emphasized the commitment to harmonizing first aid training worldwide by providing scientifically backed guidelines and fostering collaboration among National Societies.
Ms. Vidiana Xareal, CVTL External Relations Department Coordinator, noted that achieving Level C certification requires completion of the onsite training and validation through a teaching experience approved by GFARC. She underscored the importance of continuous training to ensure that CVTL trainers remain confident and competent in delivering high-quality first aid instruction aligned with international best practices.
By the end of the training, participants will emerge as more competent, confident, and consistent first aid trainers. With refreshed knowledge, updated skills, and improved instructional techniques, they will be fully equipped to deliver high-quality, standardized training sessions that meet both organizational and certification requirements. This comprehensive development will ensure they are not only prepared to teach effectively but also aligned with the latest best practices in first aid education.
