Ainaro, 22 September 2026 — The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Ainaro Branch, together with Community Volunteers (Volcom), conducted a community awareness session on drought conditions associated with El Niño in Ernaru Sub-Village, Manelobas Village, Ainaro Municipality.
The activity aimed to strengthen community awareness and preparedness to better cope with and adapt to the impacts of drought conditions. According to Mr. Graciano Pereira, CVTL Ainaro Branch Coordinator, the session provided communities with practical information on measures they can take to reduce the effects of prolonged dry conditions.
During the session, participants received guidance on the careful use and management of water resources, including appropriate practices for horticultural activities during periods of limited water availability. The community was also encouraged to store food for longer periods to help reduce the risk of food shortages and to grow crops that are better adapted to changing climate conditions.
The awareness session brought together 15 households, reaching 60 people, including 25 women and 35 men. Through these discussions, CVTL and Community Volunteers encouraged households to strengthen preparedness, manage available resources responsibly, and consider practical adaptation measures in response to changing weather and climate conditions.
This activity was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (MOFA) through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
