Dili, 28–29 July 2025 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) hosted a two-day workshop at its National Headquarters training room, focusing on Strengthening Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) in humanitarian and development programs. The event was officially opened by CVTL Secretary General, Sr. Luis Pedro Pinto, and brought together Project Officers and volunteers from the CVTL branches in Manufahi, Oecusse, Viqueque, Manatuto, and Covalima.
According to Ms. Joalita Teresa Magno, CVTL PGI Officer at the NHQ, the workshop aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of PGI principles while promoting inclusive, gender-sensitive, and violence-free services in both emergency and regular programs. She emphasized the importance of integrating PGI into all stages of humanitarian response to ensure that the needs of vulnerable groups are recognized and addressed.
The workshop featured a panel discussion with key partners including the Ra’es Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO), the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), the Secretary of State for Equality (SEI), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Topics included disability inclusion in emergencies, government policies on child protection and gender equality, and the Minimum PGI Standards in emergency situations.
With 14 participants eight women and six men the workshop combined critical reflection, practical exercises, and shared experiences to strengthen CVTL’s support for marginalized communities. The initiative was made possible through funding support from the IFRC, reinforcing CVTL’s commitment to delivering humanitarian services that respect diversity, dignity, and equal access for all.
