Aileu, 23-26 July 2024 – A comprehensive Shelter Training of Trainers for the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) and the WASH team was held at the CVTL Aileu Branch. This training aimed to equip shelter trainers who will further train the Branch Disaster Response Teams (BDRT) across all 13 CVTL Branches. The objective is to enable continuous and efficient response to disasters in affected communities.
The training covered crucial aspects of disaster response, including principles of stable housing, assessing needs, constructing temporary shelters, promoting sustainable recovery solutions, managing logistics, and ensuring health and safety standards. These components are essential for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of stable housing responses during emergencies.
Participants included Branch Coordinators, volunteers, and staff from the CVTL National Headquarters, totaling 18 individuals (6 female and 12 male). The training received technical assistance from experts Robbie Dodds of the Australian Red Cross, Wahyu Widayanto from IFRC Jakarta, and Ony Purwitasari from PMI. Their expertise significantly contributed to the program’s success.
Funded by the Australian Red Cross (ARC), this initiative underscores the commitment to building local capacity for disaster response. By training local teams, the CVTL aims to ensure that communities are better prepared and resilient in the face of future disasters.
