28 August 2026, Bobonaro – Heavy rainfall ranging from light to intense in Molop Taz Sub-Village, Molop Village, Bobonaro Municipality, triggered landslides on 23 April 2026, affecting 10 households and a total of 58 people—30 women and 28 men. Several houses were damaged as a result of the incident.
Following the landslide, the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), through its Bobonaro Branch, in collaboration with the Civil Protection Authority (APC), the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Bobonaro (SMPC), and local authorities, conducted an assessment to identify the extent of the damage and the immediate needs of the affected families.
According to Mr. Filomeno de Araujo, CVTL Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Manager, based on the assessment findings, CVTL supported the provision and construction of temporary shelters for the 10 affected families. The first temporary shelters have already been provided to Mr. Francisco Gonsalves and Mrs. Julieta Monis de Jesus, benefiting a total of 17 people 11 women and 6 men.
Construction of temporary shelters for the remaining affected families is continuing, with a total of 10 temporary shelters planned to provide safer and more appropriate living conditions while the families recover from the impact of the landslide.
CVTL continues to work closely with affected communities, government authorities, local partners, and other stakeholders to respond to humanitarian needs and support vulnerable families affected by disasters. This assistance reflects CVTL’s commitment to the principles of humanity, impartiality, and prioritizing those most in need.
The construction of the temporary shelters was supported by the American Red Cross (AmCross) through the Quick Action Fund (QAF).
