Baucau, 3 September 2024 – A powerful storm has continued to cause widespread damage in Baucau, severely impacting residents and their homes. This week, the Baucau Branch of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) and the Civil Protection Authority stepped in to provide emergency support to victims. Three households, whose homes were significantly damaged, received essential food and non-food items to help them recover from the disaster. The storm also caused damage to four additional homes, which have been inspected for further assistance.
Residents from the villages of Caihurlale de Cima, Uai-Ae, Lutumutu, and Saebere were the primary recipients of the emergency relief. Despite the hardship, victims expressed deep appreciation for the support they received, noting that the gesture, rather than the quantity, was what truly mattered during these challenging times. The prompt action by CVTL and the Civil Protection Authority was essential in helping affected families meet their immediate needs.
The CVTL and APC are continuing to assess the situation as the storm’s impact lingers.
