Timor-Leste, 23-31 August 2024 – The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) recently conducted a First Aid Refresher Training for its volunteers, ensuring they are ready to provide assistance during the upcoming visit of His Holiness Pope Francis. The training took place over eight days and focused on enhancing the skills and preparedness of volunteers in anticipation of the Pope’s visit from 9-11 September 2024.
A total of 455 volunteers participated in the training, which was led by experienced trainers from CVTL. The session covered essential first aid techniques, equipping the volunteers with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond to any emergencies that may arise during the high-profile visit.
Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto, Secretary General of CVTL, expressed his confidence in the volunteers’ readiness. “Our first aiders are now fully prepared to offer assistance during this important event,” he said, acknowledging the importance of their role in ensuring the safety of the public.
The training was made possible with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), highlighting international cooperation to strengthen Timor-Leste’s capacity to handle large-scale events.
