CVTL Ainaro Branch Conducts Disaster Preparedness Session in Mau-Chiga Village

On 10-11 October 2024, the Ainaro Branch of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) organized a Dissemination Session on Contingency and Action Planning in Mau-Chiga Village, Ainaro Municipality. The session aimed to enhance community awareness and readiness in the face of potential disasters, focusing particularly on strong winds and landslides, which are common in the region.

During the opening remarks, Mr. Graciano Lopes Pereira, Coordinator of the CVTL Ainaro Branch, emphasized the importance of reducing disaster risks. He explained that the training was designed to help minimize the impact of disasters through proactive measures, including conducting disaster simulations. “This is crucial in ensuring that the community knows what to do before, during, and after disasters strike,” he said.

Representing the beneficiaries, Mr. Lucas De Araujo expressed his gratitude for the training, noting that the information would greatly improve the community’s understanding and preparedness. “We are very happy to receive this knowledge, which will help us respond more effectively when disasters occur,” he added.

A total of 35 participants (18 women and 17 men) attended the session, which included local authorities and community members from Mau-Chiga Village. The event was made possible through funding from M-Red Mercy Corps, supporting local efforts to strengthen disaster resilience.
