From October 7-10, 2024, the CVTL (Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste) Youth and Organization Development (OD) Department conducted a Digitalization Training of Facilitators (TOF) at the Dare Retreat Hall in Dili Municipality. The event aimed to enhance the digital competencies of young facilitators, focusing on critical topics such as healthy Internet use, utilizing Google and Microsoft products, and graphic design.
The training was facilitated by key CVTL staff members, including Nelson dos Santos, IT Manager; Lucas de Deus, Multimedia Officer; and Apolinario, Information Management Specialist. Their combined expertise provided comprehensive guidance to the participants on essential digital tools and responsible Internet use. The event marked a significant step toward building digital literacy and empowering youth in CVTL’s branches.
During the opening session, CVTL Secretary General Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto emphasized the importance of equipping emerging facilitators with critical digital skills. He highlighted the need for healthy Internet practices, urging participants to make a positive impact in the digital world by using the skills they acquired during the training.
Mr. Nelson dos Santos, the main facilitator, pointed out that participants entered the training with varying levels of digital literacy. “Previously, some participants’ knowledge was quite basic, while others were more advanced. By the end of the training, they actively participated and are now able to use digital applications to design and edit, including Microsoft Office products,” he said.
One of the participants, Odencia Tefa, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to attend the training. “I am very happy to be part of this training. It has helped me expand my knowledge about technology and digitalization. Now I can design, edit, and set up online meetings using Microsoft products,” she shared.
A total of 20 young participants, including 8 females and 12 males, from CVTL branches in Oe-Cusse, Baucau, Liquica, and Manufahi attended the training. The event was supported by the IFRC Capacity Building Fund, contributing to the development of young leaders in Timor-Leste.
