Dili, July 4, 2024 – The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) and the National Blood Bank marked World Blood Donation Day with a celebratory event at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV). This occasion brought together voluntary blood donors and notable attendees, including the President of CVTL, a representative of the Vice Minister of Health, members of the National Police (PNTL), the World Health Organization (WHO), and hospital doctors and staff.
The event highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and honored those who contribute to maintaining a sustainable and safe blood supply. Ms. Madalena Hanjan, President of CVTL, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donors, emphasizing their crucial role in saving lives. “On World Blood Donation Day, recognized globally on June 14, 2024, we celebrate the 20th anniversary and express our deep appreciation to the voluntary blood donors,” said Ms. Hanjan.
A representative of the Vice Minister of Health also underscored the significance of regular blood donation in ensuring a reliable blood supply for emergencies and routine medical procedures. The National Blood Bank, alongside CVTL, continues to promote awareness and encourage new donors to join the cause, highlighting the collective effort needed to support the healthcare system.
