On January 4, 2025, the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), in collaboration with the Civil Protection Authority – APC, Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion – MSSI, Dili Municipal Authority – AMD, and Comoro Village leaders, distributed essential family kits, food, and non-food items to families impacted by severe flooding on January 1. The assistance was provided to 23 families residing in Fomento II Sub-Village (18 families) and Moris Foun Sub-Village (3 families) within Dili Municipality.
A total of 98 individuals, including 55 women and 43 men, received the relief support at the Kampung Baru Evacuation Center. The distributed aid aimed to address the immediate needs of the affected families, many of whom faced significant disruptions to their daily lives due to the disaster.
Filomeno de Araujo, CVTL Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Manager, emphasized the importance of rapid response in such crises, stating, “This action aimed to provide urgent support to the affected communities and to ensure they have access to basic necessities during this challenging time.”
The coordinated effort reflects the ongoing commitment of CVTL and its partners to support vulnerable communities and strengthen resilience against future natural disasters in Timor-Leste.
