From 9 to 14 June 2025, the Dili Branch of Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), in partnership with the fumigation team from the Dili Municipal Health Service (SSM Dili), carried out a week-long Dengue prevention campaign across several communities in Dili Municipality. The joint initiative aimed to raise public awareness about Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, and to reduce mosquito breeding through targeted interventions.
As part of the campaign, the team distributed “Abate” larvicide to households and conducted fumigation in key urban neighborhoods, including Comoro, Bairo-Pite, Caicoli, Kampo-Alor, Akadiruhun, Lahane Oriental, and Bemori. In addition to fumigation, awareness sessions educated residents on the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes. A total of 996 community members (510 women and 486 men) were reached during the campaign.
According to Mr. Joao Pinto, CVTL Health Department Coordinator, the objective of the activity was to empower communities with knowledge and tools to prevent the spread of Dengue. The campaign was carried out with the support of 13 dedicated volunteers (4 women and 9 men) and was made possible through the generous support of the Australian Red Cross.
