Dili, 22-24 January 2025 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) successfully organized a three-day training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) for primary school teachers from Bobonaro, Covalima, and Ermera. Held at the CVTL National Headquarters (NHQ) in Formosa, Dili, the training aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement disaster preparedness measures and educate students on climate resilience.
The training was officially inaugurated by CVTL Secretary General Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto, alongside a delegation from the American Red Cross led by Mr. Sazzad Ansare. Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in discussions and practical exercises focusing on disaster risk management, early warning systems, hazard identification, and effective response strategies.
With climate change increasingly impacting Timor-Leste, the training emphasized the importance of integrating DRR and CCA concepts into school curricula. By enhancing teachers’ understanding of these issues, CVTL aims to foster community resilience and empower students to take proactive steps in disaster preparedness and mitigation.
A total of 16 teachers, including 7 women and 9 men, took part in the program. Their participation is expected to contribute to a safer learning environment for students and help build long-term community resilience against disasters and climate-related challenges in their respective regions.
