Community Volunteers Trained on Early Warning System and Safe Shelter in Ermera

Ermera, 27 January – 1 February 2025 – A training session on the Early Warning System and Safe Shelter was successfully conducted for community volunteers and residents in Atsabe Administrative Post (Leimea-Leten Village) and Hatolia Administrative Post (Urahou Village). The program aimed to strengthen local capacity in disaster preparedness and response, equipping participants with the necessary skills to manage risks effectively.

Facilitated by Filomeno de Araujo, CVTL’s Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Manager, the training provided hands-on experience and critical knowledge on implementing early warning mechanisms and safe shelter management. Participants engaged in practical exercises to better understand disaster response strategies and community coordination efforts.

A total of 86 individuals, including 40 women and 46 men, took part in the training. The initiative emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, ensuring that both men and women are equally prepared to respond to emergencies and safeguard their communities.

This activity was made possible with the support of the American Red Cross, demonstrating a continued commitment to building community resilience against disasters in Timor-Leste.
