CVTL Covalima Branch Monitors Progress on Lactos Village Water Gravity System Rehabilitation

Suai, 15 August 2024 – The Covalima Branch of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) is actively overseeing the rehabilitation project of the water gravity system in Lactos Village, located in the Fohorem Administrative Post, Covalima Municipality. As of now, the installation is 85% complete, with significant progress made on key components of the project.

The project, which includes the installation of 11 water taps, is moving towards its final stages. Three additional taps are nearing completion, while work continues on eight others. The rehabilitation effort also extends to the construction of toilets for the Lactos Health Center, which is expected to benefit greatly from improved water access.

A high-level monitoring visit was conducted by Mr. Atanasio Francisco Tavares, Secretary of the National Board of Directors (CDN), accompanied by the Covalima Branch Coordinator, representatives from SMASA, Care International, and the Head of Lactos Village. This visit was aimed at ensuring the project’s proper implementation, given its critical role in enhancing the village’s water supply infrastructure.

The project is financially supported by CARE International and the World Bank, whose contributions are pivotal in bringing sustainable water solutions to Lactos Village. The successful completion of this project is anticipated to significantly improve the quality of life for the residents by ensuring reliable access to clean water.
