CVTL and SSM Dili Conduct Dengue Prevention Campaign in Bairro-Pité Dili

Dili, 18-24 February 2025 – Volunteers from the CVTL Dili Branch, in collaboration with the Dili Municipal Health Service (SSM Dili), carried out a Dengue prevention campaign in the Rio de Janeiro and Moris ba Dame sub-villages, Bairro-Pité Village, Dom Aleixo Post-Administrative, Dili Municipality. The initiative included community awareness sessions, Abate distribution, and fumigation to control the spread of Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, the primary carriers of Dengue fever.

Martina Mendonça, Coordinator of the CVTL Dili Branch, emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting that it is carried out every rainy season to protect the community, especially children, from Dengue. “The objective is to safeguard public health and ensure that the community is informed about preventive measures against this disease,” she stated. She also clarified that these services are coordinated directly by CVTL NHQ with the SSM, while the CVTL Dili Branch only provides the volunteers.

The campaign successfully reached 366 community members, including 197 females and 158 males. Through education and direct intervention, the initiative aimed to reduce the risk of Dengue outbreaks in the area.

A dedicated team of eight volunteers, comprising five females and three males, carried out the activities with support from the IFRC – Chronic Crisis program. Their efforts contributed significantly to strengthening community resilience against Dengue fever in the region.
