Liquiça, 30 November 2024 – The Disaster Management Department of the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) distributed essential agricultural equipment and seeds to farmer groups in Lebukailiti and Gariana sub-villages of Vatuvou Village, Liquiça Municipality. The initiative aims to bolster local agricultural activities and enhance community resilience.
Speaking at the event, Josafat de Araujo, a representative of CVTL’s Disaster Management Department, emphasized the significance of the program. “This initiative is part of CVTL’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience and enhance their capacity for sustainable development, particularly to address local food challenges,” he stated.
The program directly benefited 38 farmers—16 from Lebukailiti and 22 from Gariana. Distributed items included shovels, chipping hoes, plastic drums, garden hoses, plastic watering cans, and various vegetable seeds, all essential for sustainable farming practices.
This distribution was made possible through funding from the Timor-Leste Government’s Gabineti Apoio Sosiedade Sivil (GASC), showcasing a collaborative effort to improve food security and support livelihoods in rural areas.
