CVTL Strengthens Humanitarian Cooperation with Timor-Leste National Police

1 September 2026, Dili – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) paid a courtesy visit to the Commander-General of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Afonso dos Santos, at the PNTL General Command Headquarters in Caicoli, Dili.

The CVTL delegation was led by President Mr. Cecilio Fernandes and included Vice-President Mr. Marçal Freitas Magno, President of the Finance Commission Mrs. Sonia Denis Almeida, and Secretary General Mr. Agapito da Silva.

During the meeting, CVTL President Mr. Cecilio Fernandes and PNTL Commander-General Mr. Afonso dos Santos highlighted the importance of strengthening humanitarian cooperation between the two institutions. The discussion emphasised opportunities to enhance collaboration in supporting communities and responding effectively to humanitarian needs.

The visit also underscored the shared commitment of CVTL and PNTL to working together to promote community safety, protection and well-being. Strong cooperation between humanitarian and public institutions is essential to ensuring that communities are better prepared to respond to emergencies and receive timely support when humanitarian needs arise.

The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for both organisations to strengthen their relationship and explore areas of continued cooperation in support of safer, more resilient and well-supported communities across Timor-Leste.
