Viqueque, 29 May 2026 – Staff from the Strengthening Social Inclusion and Nutrition in Timor-Leste (SSINTL) Program of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Liquiça and Viqueque Branches participated in a three-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Climate-Smart Agriculture from 27–29 May 2026 at the CVTL Viqueque Field Training Hall.
The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of CVTL staff in sustainable agriculture, food security, and community resilience to climate change. During the opening session, Mrs. Severina Marques, CVTL Viqueque Branch Coordinator, emphasized the importance of equipping staff with practical skills and knowledge to support communities in adapting to climate challenges while improving agricultural productivity.
A total of 13 participants, including 6 women and 7 men, took part in the training. They gained both theoretical and practical knowledge on organic farming, climate-smart agricultural practices, and the production of organic fertilizers using locally available materials. These approaches are designed to help communities improve agricultural production in a sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly manner.
Participants also learned how to maximize the use of local resources, reducing dependence on imported agricultural inputs and strengthening community self-reliance and long-term agricultural sustainability.
The training was facilitated by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), a key project partner, through Mr. Agustinho Ximenes, Agriculture Program Manager, and Mrs. Luciana da Silva, Senior Program Officer for SILC. The facilitators shared valuable experiences and practical insights on sustainable agricultural development and climate adaptation strategies in Timor-Leste.
This activity was successfully implemented under the SSINTL Program with the support of the European Union in Timor-Leste, reinforcing ongoing efforts to promote food security, social inclusion, and climate resilience among vulnerable communities across the country.
