Dili, 25 September 2024 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) and the Civil Protection Authority (APC) have officially renewed their partnership through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, which extends their cooperation for the next five years, aims to further strengthen humanitarian work across Timor-Leste. The signing ceremony, held in Dili, was attended by prominent figures, including the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, His Excellency Mr. Domingos Mariano Reis, representatives from the United Nations Agencies, IFRC in Timor-Leste, international and local NGOs, as well as government officials.
The MoU was formally signed by Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto, Secretary General of CVTL, and Mr. Jesuino dos Reis de Matos Carvalho, President of APC. This agreement focuses on enhancing preparedness, anticipatory action, disaster response, and recovery efforts. The extended partnership is aimed at addressing both natural and human-made crises in Timor-Leste, reinforcing the nation’s capacity to respond to emergencies efficiently.
The collaboration between CVTL and APC emphasizes a joint commitment to reducing the impact of disasters and strengthening community resilience. The two entities will continue to work together to develop coordinated emergency operations, ensuring timely interventions in vulnerable communities. This includes sharing resources, expertise, and implementing innovative approaches to disaster management.
In his speech at the event, Secretary of State Mr. Domingos Mariano Reis praised the renewed partnership, calling it a vital step towards safeguarding the people of Timor-Leste. He highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in mitigating the effects of crises and ensuring a sustainable recovery for affected communities.
