CVTL Covalima and Civil Protection Authority Conduct Disaster Awareness for Students in Harekain

On March 7-8, 2025, the CVTL Covalima Branch, in collaboration with the Civil Protection Authority (APC) of Covalima Municipality, organized a two-day awareness program on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at Eskola Bázika Filial 1 – 2 in Harekain, Raimea Village, Zumalai Post Administrative, Covalima Municipality. This initiative aimed to educate students and teachers on essential disaster preparedness measures, ensuring they are well-equipped to respond to natural disasters.

According to Octaviana Tereza Do Carmo, a project officer, the primary objective of the activity was to enhance students’ understanding of basic disaster concepts. By providing crucial knowledge on disaster preparedness, the program sought to empower young learners with the skills needed to protect themselves and their communities during emergencies. A total of 27 participants attended the session, including 11 female and 18 male students.

The program was made possible with the support of the American Red Cross, which continues to contribute to strengthening community resilience in disaster-prone areas. The initiative underscores the importance of early education in disaster risk management, fostering a culture of preparedness among future generations.
