CVTL Disaster Risk Management Department Hosts Quarterly SDRR Program Review to Boost Disaster Preparedness Efforts

Dili, 2–3 April 2025 – The Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Department conducted its Quarterly Progress Review and Coordination Meeting for the Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Response (SDRR) Program at St. Elizabeth, Taibessi, Dili. The two-day meeting brought together key stakeholders to assess ongoing progress, address implementation challenges, and enhance coordination across program areas.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Md. Sazzad Ansari, American Red Cross Country Representative in Timor-Leste, emphasized the importance of the meeting in improving program management. “This meeting aims to deepen our shared understanding of SDRR activities, reflect on our achievements and setbacks, and collectively plan for the way forward,” he stated.

The review was attended by heads of departments, project managers, and staff from the CVTL National Headquarters, along with representatives from the American Red Cross in Timor-Leste and CVTL branches in Bobonaro, Covalima, and Ermera. A total of 22 participants (6 female and 16 male) actively contributed to the discussions, offering insights and suggestions to strengthen coordination and local disaster response capacities.

This quarterly gathering, supported by the American Red Cross (AmCross), reinforces the ongoing commitment to building a resilient disaster response framework in Timor-Leste. It highlighted the importance of collaboration at all levels and the need for continuous improvement to meet the evolving risks faced by communities.
