Dili, 1–5 April 2025 – The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), in collaboration with the Special Civil Protection Unit (UEPC), participated in a five-day drowning rescue training organized by the Civil Protection Authority of Timor-Leste (APC). The training was held from 1 to 5 April in Dili and Liquica Municipality, aiming to boost the readiness of emergency responders in water-related disasters.
The training combined theoretical and practical sessions, focusing on rescue techniques in seas, lakes, and rivers. It was led by experienced instructors from UEPC, equipping participants with the necessary skills to act swiftly and effectively in hydrographic emergencies. A total of 50 individuals took part, including UEPC personnel and four representatives (1 female and 3 male) from CVTL’s Search and Rescue Team (SAR-CVTL).
UEPC Commander Fernando da Costa emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating that the training is part of proactive disaster preparedness efforts. “This is a pre-disaster action to prepare our teams for emergency situations, especially in search and rescue operations involving water victims,” he said.
CVTL Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Manager Filomeno de Araujo expressed appreciation for APC’s ongoing collaboration. “We are grateful to APC for always including CVTL in these critical activities. Our partnership is vital in strengthening prevention, response, and support efforts to protect communities across Timor-Leste,” he noted.
