CVTL Donates 160 Body Bags to Civil Protection Authority

Dili, 12 December 2024 – The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) has handed over 160 body bags to the Civil Protection Authority (APC) as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen disaster response capabilities in the country. CVTL Secretary-General Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto emphasized that this partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing emergency situations and natural disasters effectively. He acknowledged APC’s pivotal role as the government institution responsible for disaster management, highlighting the necessity of coordinated efforts between CVTL, APC, and other entities.

The handover ceremony was attended by key officials, including CVTL Secretary-General Luis Pedro Pinto, National Operational Commander of APC Nuno Roumaldo Gomes, and APC President Jezuino Dos Reis Matos Carvalho. Staff members from both organizations participated in the event, underscoring the spirit of collaboration between the two parties.

National Operational Commander Nuno Roumaldo Gomes expressed gratitude to CVTL for their consistent support in disaster response and preparedness. He noted that the 160 body bags would be distributed across APC’s thirteen municipal offices, including Oe-Cusse, to enhance readiness and ensure swift action during emergencies.

This initiative is made possible through the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), further reinforcing the shared mission to improve disaster management and humanitarian responses in Timor-Leste.
