CVTL joint SAR Exercise Strengthens Emergency Response in Timor-Leste

December 2-3, 2024, Ermera – A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise brought together key agencies and organisations in Timor-Leste to enhance emergency response capabilities. Participants included the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), the Timor-Leste Fire Brigade (Bombeiros), the Australian Defence Force, and the Australian Federal Police. The event highlighted collaboration and preparedness in addressing critical emergencies.

Zeca dos Santos, a CVTL volunteer and active member of the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT), emphasized the significance of the exercise. “The journey from the Nasuta Liquica River to Ermera Stadium showcased our teamwork and shared commitment to saving lives,” he said. The event demonstrated practical skills in search and rescue operations while fostering unity among diverse responders.

This hands-on training reinforced the ability of participants to work cohesively in challenging conditions. By simulating real-life emergency scenarios, the SAR exercise strengthened communication, coordination, and operational readiness.
