Dili, 4 September 2024 – The CVTL (Timor-Leste Red Cross) Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WATSAN) team today established several First Aid Stations across key locations in Dili, ahead of Pope Francis’ highly anticipated visit. As thousands of pilgrims are expected to descend on the capital for the Mass at Tasi-Tolu from September 9-11, these stations are crucial to ensuring the health and safety of the attendees.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the National Emergency Medical Ambulance Team (SNAEM IP), and CVTL’s First Aid Team, medical professionals will provide essential care for any emergencies that may arise during the pilgrimage. The stations will offer immediate medical support to pilgrims, ensuring they are well-cared for as they participate in the major religious events.
Some of the key locations for these First Aid Stations include near Motael Church, in front of the Cathedral Church, and at the Dili-CCD Convention Centre. A total of 44 tents will be set up across the city, ensuring widespread coverage for the large crowds expected to gather for His Holiness Pope Francis’ arrival.
Luis Pedro, Secretary General of CVTL, emphasized the organization’s preparedness, stating, “CVTL not only has First Aid teams on-site but also an emergency tent setup team, along with support vehicles to provide mobile First Aid assistance.” These efforts are part of a broader initiative to maintain the safety and well-being of the public throughout the papal visit.
