Ainaro, 14 September 2024, the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) led a significant initiative aimed at enhancing local preparedness for disasters. CVTL’s Disaster Risk Reduction Manager, Filomeno De Araujo, conducted a socialization session to introduce the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Policy and CVTL’s Disaster Management Contingency Plan. The session targeted both volunteers and staff at the Ainaro Branch, ensuring that key guidelines are effectively understood and implemented.
The primary goal of this socialization was to bolster the disaster response capabilities of participants, enabling them to follow the outlined policies for prompt and effective action during emergencies. By focusing on skill enhancement and disaster preparedness, the initiative aims to safeguard the community’s safety and build resilience against potential risks in the Ainaro municipality.
A total of 22 individuals participated in the session, including 9 women and 13 men. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants gained valuable insights into disaster risk management, which they can now apply in their respective roles and communities.
This important initiative was made possible through the support of the Australian Red Cross, whose funding continues to help strengthen local disaster management efforts in Timor-Leste, ensuring a safer future for vulnerable communities.
