“Embrace Learning and Volunteering: Every Effort Counts in Making a Positive Impact” – Learn about Ivania’s journey as a volunteer with CVTL, leading to her participation in the Asia Pacific Red Cross Youth Conference in Bali, Indonesia.
Ivania Mizaquel Da Silva Rangel, 24, began volunteering with CVTL Dili Branch in 2018 after completing her secondary education. She has now been a dedicated volunteer for six years.
Known as “Vania” by her peers, she serves as a volunteer coordinator at the CVTL Dili Branch. Additionally, her colleagues have entrusted her with the role of Youth Coordinator at the Dili Branch for the 2023-2025 term.
“What really motivates me to volunteer with CVTL is their humanitarian mission,” says Ivania. “CVTL always provides space for young people to express their talents and creativity. They uphold the principle of helping everyone, regardless of color, race, religion, gender, and more. This inspired me to volunteer, just like my fellow colleagues. Through my work with CVTL Dili, I have learned a great deal about first aid, disaster management, youth health, hygiene and sanitation, and many other areas.”
Ivania also shared some exciting news: she was recently selected to represent CVTL Youth at a 3rd SEA Youth forum in Bali, Indonesia, from September 1 to 6, 2024. “I feel a mix of happiness and nervousness,” she admitted. “I’m grateful for this incredible opportunity, but I was also a bit surprised, why did CVTL choose me? I was a little scared because I didn’t know what to expect once I arrived. But everything turned out well. I’m so happy to have met new friends from different countries. During the conference, I learned about mental health, gender protection and inclusion, climate change, and other important issues. We also shared experiences about youth activities from Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers from different national societies.”
To her fellow young volunteers, Ivania offers this message: “Don’t be afraid to learn and get involved in activities that bring positive value to your life. Sometimes we think we can’t do everything, but remember, you can always do something. There is nothing more valuable than the time and energy you dedicate to helping others, so be proud of yourself as a volunteer.”
