From September 9 to 13, 2024, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Danish Red Cross organized a regional training in Kathmandu, Nepal, focused on “Community Health for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).” The event aimed to equip National Societies with tools to prevent, manage, and control NCDs in various settings, including humanitarian contexts.
The training introduced participants to the IFRC NCD Community Service Delivery Package, a comprehensive guide designed to improve NCD health services in communities. Attendees also exchanged knowledge and best practices for optimizing NCD programs, sharing insights from their respective countries to strengthen future initiatives.
Julia Pereira, a Health Officer from Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL), expressed her enthusiasm for the training, stating, “I have learned many new approaches, and I look forward to applying them in our NCD programs at CVTL.” The skills acquired during the sessions will be instrumental in enhancing community health interventions in Timor-Leste.
Representatives from 17 countries, including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Laos, and Indonesia, participated in the event. The training highlighted the region’s collective efforts to combat NCDs and improve health outcomes for millions of people across Asia and the Pacific.
