20 July 2024, Manatuto – The Manatuto Branch of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) conducted an informative session for students at Kay-Rala General Secondary School. This educational event aimed to deepen the students’ understanding of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, highlighting the significance of its emblem, the seven Fundamental Principles, and CVTL’s auxiliary status and activities.
The session attracted a strong turnout, with 48 students participating. Among them, 42 were female, and 7 were male, demonstrating significant interest and engagement from the school’s student body. The interactive presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the history, mission, and humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
During the event, students were educated on the essential principles guiding the movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. These principles are foundational to the operations and ethos of the Red Cross, ensuring aid is delivered impartially and effectively in times of need.
The successful organization of this session was made possible with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Their assistance underscores the collaborative effort to educate and empower young individuals about the importance of humanitarian work, fostering a new generation of informed and engaged citizens.
