Progress in Clean Water Infrastructure Brings Relief to Samalari Sub-Village, Osu-Rua Village, Ossu Post Administrative, Viqueque Municipality Residents

Viqueque, 21 September 2024 – Significant progress has been made on the clean water infrastructure project in Samalari Sub-Village, Osu-Rua Village, Ossu Post Administrative, Viqueque Municipality. The construction, led by CVTL’s Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) team in collaboration with the Facility Management Group (GMF) and the local community, aims to provide access to clean water for 43 people across 11 households. The project is part of ongoing efforts to address water shortages in the region.

Although the construction is not yet fully complete, residents are already benefiting from the system. Before the project, the community faced extreme difficulties during the dry season, often walking long distances to find water. The new infrastructure now allows them to access clean water much closer to their homes, improving daily life and easing the burden, particularly for women and children who were often responsible for fetching water.

The local community has expressed happiness with the progress made so far, as access to clean water has been a longstanding challenge. This essential improvement marks a significant step towards improving health, hygiene, and quality of life in Samalari Sub-Village.

The project was made possible with the financial support of CARE International in Timor-Leste, enabling CVTL and its partners to bring about meaningful change in the area. The collaboration between local and international organizations has been key to ensuring the sustainability and success of the water infrastructure.
