Strengthening Management Capacity in Emergency Shelters: CVTL Enhances Disaster Response in Viqueque

Viqueque, 4–6 February 2025 – The three-day Emergency Shelter Training, held at the CVTL Viqueque Branch office, focused on strengthening the management capacity of emergency shelters to ensure the safety and dignity of displaced communities affected by disasters and crises. Led by Filomeno de Araujo, CVTL DRR Manager and main facilitator, the training aimed to enhance participants’ skills in humanitarian response.

Severina Marques, CVTL Viqueque Branch Coordinator, expressed satisfaction with the training, highlighting its interactive learning activities, simulations, and hands-on practice in managing temporary shelters. “I’m happy with the training because we learned valuable skills that will help us better assist communities in times of crisis,” she said.

A total of 25 staff and volunteers from CVTL branches in Baucau, Lautem, Manatuto, and Viqueque participated, including 11 females and 14 males. The training emphasized humanitarian standards and gender-sensitive approaches in emergency shelter management, ensuring inclusivity and effective disaster response.

Supported by Chronic Crisis – IFRC, this initiative reinforces CVTL’s commitment to building a stronger and more resilient community. Through continuous training and collaboration, emergency response teams are better equipped to provide safe, dignified, and efficient shelter solutions in times of need.
