From October 1 to 3, 2024, three Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilitators from the Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) — Orlando de Carvalho, Juvinal Barreto, and Joaquim Tilman — led a specialized training at the CVTL Covalima Branch. The training aimed to equip volunteers and staff with essential skills to improve the community’s response to emergencies involving water and sanitation.
The facilitators emphasized that the key objectives of the training were to teach participants how to install emergency water supply systems, prepare septic tanks, and manage waste during crises. These practical skills are critical to enhancing the community’s preparedness and resilience when facing natural disasters or other emergencies.
The training session was attended by 20 participants, including 13 women and 7 men, reflecting a strong engagement from local volunteers eager to contribute to their community’s safety. The diverse group benefitted from hands-on learning experiences tailored to real-world emergency scenarios.
This important initiative was made possible with the financial support of the IFRC Chronic Crisis program, which aims to empower local communities by strengthening their ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
