Ermera, 16 April 2026 – The Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) Ermera Branch, through the Village Disaster Risk Management Committee (KJRDS), conducted a door-to-door information-sharing campaign on the Family Disaster Response Plan in Urahou Village, Hatulia Administrative Post, Ermera Municipality.
According to Mr. Duarte, Coordinator of CVTL Ermera Branch, the initiative aims to address the increasing vulnerability of communities to natural hazards. He explained that Ermera, known for its coffee production, is frequently affected by severe weather conditions.
“Ermera produces a lot of coffee, but during storms, strong winds destroy houses and damage crops. Continuous rainfall often triggers landslides. That is why we are distributing posters and educating communities on how to protect themselves, reduce risks, and prepare before disasters occur,” he said.
The activity was carried out across four villages Dosmagar, Laulema, Manu-Hatu, and Hatulaulete—with the goal of strengthening community knowledge and capacity to respond effectively before, during, and after disasters, particularly strong winds and landslides.
A total of 111 households participated in the campaign, reaching 261 individuals, including 142 females and 119 males. Through direct engagement, families received practical guidance on disaster preparedness and risk reduction measures.
This initiative was supported by the American Red Cross (AmCross), reinforcing ongoing efforts to build safer and more resilient communities in Ermera Municipality.
